Jacob "Jake" Haas, 85, of Fort Collins passed away Wednesday, July 4, 2007, at P.V.H. in Fort Collins.
He was born July 23, 1921, in Windsor to William and Katherine (Erbes) Haas.
Jake's brother gave him the nickname "Speck," and his friends called him by that name because they didn't
know his real name.
Jake served during WWII with the U.S. Navy.
He married Bertha Jordan on Nov. 16, 1947, in Windsor.
Jake loved fishing, playing the harmonica, polka music and dancing. In later years, he enjoyed crafts, Christmas
trees and Christmas lights, he also played spoons in the Oak Brook Band. He was a member of the Moose Lodge No. 275.
Jake moved to Fort Collins in 1938 and worked for farmer Dick Greenwalt for several years. Jake would load beet pulp in the winter. He also worked for International Harvester Implement dealership in Fort Collins, then Heath Farm Equipment Manufacturing shipping department until they closed.
He is survived by a sister; a brother; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha in October 2003; his parents; sisters, Mary Jacoby, Helen Haas, Katherine Miller, Elizabeth Greenwald and Betty Schmidt; brothers, William Haas Jr., Henry Haas and Phillip Haas.
