Miss Sophia Beese of Deerfield, Steele Co., MN., marr. Fred W. Mahler, March 11, 1881.

She was born in Waukesha county, WI., Jan. 6, 1861, and came to Minnesota with her parents when she was five or six years of age.
Mr. and Mrs. Mahler at once made their home on their farm, which they improved and cultivated until March 1898 when Mr. Mahler bought the half interest of Mr. W. H. Roesler in the hardware business of Goodman and Roesler. In 1900 he bought Mr. Goodman's interest also and carried on the business alone until 1903 when Mr. William Habein bought a half interest. The firm name is now Mahler and Habein. They do an extensive business.
Mr. and Mrs. Mahler are the parents of seven children, two sons and five daughters. The elder son, George E., was born August 1, 1884, and is now clerk in the store. Mr. Mahler was town assessor of Woodville for three years and is a member of the charter commission of Waseca.

Mrs. Sophia Mahler passed away at her home in this city on Friday, March 14th, at 4:45 p.m., aged 63 years. The funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon at 2:45 from the house and at three o'clock from the First M. E. church of this city, of which the deceased had been a life-long member. The pastor, Rev. Chas. Miller, officiated and paid a high tribute to the life of the deceased and her faithfulness to her church, her family and friends. The services were largely attended and the floral offerings were beautiful.
The pall bearers were: Orlando Didra, Dr. Prail, C. M. Hawkes, E. J. Graben, F. E. Junke and C. Albright. Interment was made in Woodville cemetery.

Mahler took place in Deerfield and for many years they lived on what is now known as the John Donovan farm, east of town, and moved from there to this city twenty-six years ago and he engaged in the hardware business, which is now conducted by his sons. His death occurred seventeen years ago April 15th.
Mrs. Mahler suffered astoke of apoplexy four years ago the second of February and had been very poorly since that time.
She is survived by five daughters and two sons, all of this city, namely: Mrs. S. H. Pfaff, George Mahler, Mrs. Ben Senske, Mrs. Alvin Koechel, Wesley Mahler, Misses Frieda and Louise Mahler. Among those from out of town who were in attendance at the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Fette and family, of Mankato, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Saufferer and family of Faribault, Henry Saufferer of Morristown, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Beese of Deerfield.
