TOWN HERMAN MAN, 85, DIED ON BIRTH AND WEDDING DAY
Howards Grove—Simon Schumacher, 85, retired farmer who resides north of here on Highway 42, died early today—on the anniversary of his birth and first marriage. He was born Feb. 7, 1855, in Germany and came to this country in 1866 with his parents. He was married Feb. 7, 1882, to Minna Knoener, who preceded him in death Nov. 3, 1886. A daughter, Laura, (Mrs. Carl Knoener) of his first marriage survives him. She lived in the town of Mosel. Two other children of his first marriage died in infancy.
On November 18, 1887, he married Anna Arnhoelter. Three children of this marriage, in addition to the widow survive him. They are William Schumacher, town of Herman, Hilda, (Mrs. Harry Erbstoeszer) of Haven; and Oscar Schumacher on the homestead. One daughter, Lydia (Mrs. Gustave Werthmann), town of Herman, preceded him in death. Nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive him.
He was confirmed at St. Paul's Reformed church, town of Mosel, May 10, 1870, by the Rev. Mr. Heckmann. In 1937 Mr. and Mrs. Schumacher celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.
Funeral services will be held at the home and at Emmanuel Reformed church, the Rev. Clarence Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
