William E. Schnabel dies at 75

Former Main Street merchant William E. Schnabel, 75, 315 Fairmount Drive, died at 11:55 a.m. Saturday at King's Daughters' Hospital.

A native of Jefferson County, he was owner of Schnable's Jewelry Store, 122 E. Main St., until his retirement three years ago.

He was a member of Union Lodge No. 2 F. & A. M., and the Madison Moose Lodge, and had served on the boards of the Madison Regatta, The Salvation Army, the Lide White boys' Club, and the Boy Scouts.

He was manager of the Elks Lodge in the early 1950s.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Muriel Ronk Schnabel; two sons; Donald E., Tomahawk, Wisc.,; and Charles W., Madison; two daughters; Mrs. Marilyn Lyons, Laurens, S. C.; and Mrs. Linda Adams, Madison; two sisters: Mrs. Alice Adams, Rising Sun, and Mrs. Bernice Douglass, Madison; two brothers: Raymond, Phoenix, Ariz.; and Gilbert, Boonton, J. J.; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today at the Resurrection Lutheran Church with burial in Springdale Cemetery.
