REV. CHAS. SCHNABEL DEAD
Lutheran Pastor Dies at His Home in West Englewood, N.J.
Rev. Charles W. Schnabel, 35, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Schnabel, 611 Walnut street, died suddenly of a heart attack yesterday at 3:15 p.m. at his home in West Englewood, N.J., where he was pastor of a Lutheran church.
Rev. Schnabel became ill Monday and had summoned a physician the second time yesterday, but his health had been good prior to his week.
He had been pastor of the West Englewood church for nine years, having been the first and only minister to serve the church. From a small group of members he had built up a congregation of several hundred followers of his church since it was established. His work received high commendation from those he served.
Born and reared in Madison, he graduated from the local high school. He was also a graduate of Indiana University where he held the rank of captain in a reserve officers training corps. Rev. Schnabel received a Ph.D. degree from Indiana university, and then entered and graduated from Wittenberg college and seminary where he was awarded a degree of doctor of divinity.
He was the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. William Schnabel, who survive. He also leaves seven brothers and sisters, Mrs. Earl Adams, Madison rural route; Nathan, Raymond, Gilbert, Benny, and Bernice, all at home, and William E. Schnabel, Jr., at Booneton, N.J.
His remains are expected to arrive in Madison just before noon Saturday. The time of the funeral services here has not been arranged but the burial will be in Springdale cemetery.
Funeral services will be held at Englewood Friday morning.
