Pastor Jeff Zell will conduct funeral services at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, May 10, 2007 at the Vail-Holt Funeral Homes, Downtown Chapel with interment in Springdale Cemetery.

Family and friends may call at the Vail-Holt Funeral Homes, Downtown Chapel from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, May 9, 2007 and after 9:00 A.M. Thursday until time of service.

Bernice M. (Schnabel) Douglass, age 88 of Madison, she and her late husband, Forrest E. "Forrie" Douglass also lived in Miami, Florida during the late 1950's and early 1960's, passed away on Saturday, May 5, 2007 at the Waters of Clifty Falls. Born November 20, 1918 in Madison, Indiana, she was the daughter of William and Susan (Mote) Schnabel, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Ronald V. McKay on June 11, 1945; her second husband, Forrest E. "Forrie" Douglass on March 10, 2005; a sister, Alice (Schnabel) Adams; six brothers, Charles, William, Gilbert, Ben, Raymond and Nathan Schnabel. Mrs. Douglass formerly worked in sales and bookkeeping for Schnabel Jewelry Store on Mulberry Street and later moved to Main Street and also worked at Knoebel-Bird Men's Clothing Store. She was as a secretary for the late Bernard Cassidy who served as Madison City Judge for several years. She attended Resurrection Lutheran Church. Mrs. Douglass was a member of the Madison Elks Club and enjoyed golfing, bowling and traveling.

Survivors include one son, Don L. McKay and his wife, Julia of Madison; two grandchildren, LeAnn McKay of Boca Raton, FL and Don L. McKay, Jr. and his wife, Sandra of Madison; two great-grandchildren, Kate and Nathan McKay; a sister-in-law, Lillian D. McCoskey and her husband, Eugene of Madison and several nieces and nephews. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Madison Riverfront Development Project or the Springdale Cemetery. Contribution cards will be available at the Vail-Holt Funeral Home.
