John was born June 13, 1918, at Hardin, to John Jacob and Mary Elizabeth Maier Krug.
As a young boy, his family moved to the Laurel area, where they farmed and later ran the Krug Bothers Sand and Gravel business. On Feb. 21, 1953, he married Mary Michael in Laurel. There they made their home and raised their three daughters.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Mary of the family home; Connie (Ron) Clayton and children, John, Kelly and Eric of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Carole (Todd) Marsh and children, Derek, Mikaela and Jordan of Rapelje, Cathy (Ray) Sanderson and children, Carrie and Kacie of Laurel; five sisters, Annie Nielson, Elizabeth McLaughlin, Esther Krug, Lydia Frank and Martha Kohl; four brothers, George, Henry, Adam and William Krug.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Molly and Mary; two brothers, Alec and Jacob.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, April 25, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Laurel, with interment in Laurel Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 1 to 8 p.m. at Smith Funeral Chapel-Laurel. Donations may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church of Charity of one's choice.
