Leon E. Rein died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, at Longmont United Hospital. He was 96.

Mr. Rein was born Nov. 20, 1907, to George and Beatrice (Keil) Rein.

He grew up in the Russell area in Kansas and farmed and raised cattle most of his life. In 1966, he retired to Hays, Kan., for a few years before returning to Russell. In 1985, he moved to Berthoud and in January 2000, he moved in with his daughter Karla Rein in Longmont.

He enjoyed living in Berthoud. He liked eating pancakes at the International House of Pancakes in Loveland. He will be remembered for always doing his patriotic duty of voting.

He was preceded in death by two grandchildren; two sisters, Hilda Michael and Luella Rein; and three brothers, Herman who died in World War II, Elmer Rein and Alvin Rein.

Mr. Rein is survived by two daughters, Karla Rein of Longmont and Marceline Phlieger and her husband Everett of Russell; a grandson, Tim Phlieger of Russell; two granddaughters, Jennifer Phlieger of Russell and Kim Phlieger of Salina, Kan.; several great-grandchildren including Mandi Pauls of Thornton; three sisters, Darlene Woodson of San Diego, Helen Lockyer of Roseburg, Ore., and Marie Ford of Fort Worth, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

No services are scheduled. Cremation is being handled by Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.
