Alvin W. Rein, 82, died March 3, 1999, at Smith Center. He was born Sept 6, 1916 at Russell to George Jr. and Beatrice (Keil) Rein. He married Lillian F. Roper, Aug. 10, 1948, at Denver, Colo. She died Nov 9, 1991. He lived all of his life in the Russell area, and was an active farmer and stockman, moving from the farm to Russell in 1969. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Elks Lodge, Veterans of Foreigh Wars and Kiwanis Club, all of Russell. He was also a World War II united States Army veteran.

Survivors are: One son, Larry Rein, Denver; one daughter, Patty Driscoll, Russell; one brother, Leon Rein, Berthoud, Colo; four sisters, Luella Rein, Lucas, Marie Ford, Russell, Helen Lockyer, Junction City, Darlene Woodson, San Diego, Calif; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian; parents; two brothers, Herman and Elmer and one sister, Hilda Michel. His funeral will be at 10:30 am Friday, at Trinity United Methodist Church, with Rev. Glenn Tombaugh officiating. Burial will be in the Russell City Cemetery. Memorials are to Alzheimer's Disease Association, in care of the mortuary.
