IRON RIVER – Marie Proksch, 92, of 127 Seventh Ave. died Aug. 29 at Iron County Medical Care Facility following a lengthy illness.
The former Marie Steinke [should be Kowalski] was born Dec. 24, 1893, in Stambaugh, where she attended the local schools. She was a lifelong resident of the area. In 1920 she married Alois H. Proksch and he died in 1961. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Iron River and a former member of the Iron River Country Club.
She is survived by a stepson, Charles Proksch of Stambaugh; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and three nieces. She was also preceded in death by two stepdaughters, Evelyn Proksch Groth and Agnes Proksch Pavlish, a brother and three sisters.
Visitation was held Sept. 1 at the Brooks-Langenberg Funeral Home in Iron River.
Services were held Sept. 2 at First Lutheran Church in Iron River. The Rev. Harlin H. Haack, pastor, officiated.
Burial was in Iron River City Cemetery.
