Lawrence LeRoy Kreiss, son of John and Lottie Miles Kreiss, was born in Keosauqua on Dec. 30, 1896 and died at Huron, S.D. on Saturday, Aug. 29, at the age of 67 years, eight months and 29 days.
His early life was spent in Keosauqua. He entered the service during World War I serving in France with the 109th Engineer. Following his discharge from the service, he made his home in Des Moines.
On Nov. 9, 1936, he was married to Leah Patterson of Des Moines. One nephew and two nieces, Raymond, Patricia Ann and Norma Lee Patterson were raised in their home. He was a member of the Bethany Lutheran church of Woonsocket, S.D. the American Legion Post No. 29 and the 109th Engineers.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by five sisters, Miss Beedie Kreiss of Waterloo, Mrs. Florence Hobbs of Ottumwa, Mrs. Lena DeHart of Wickenburg, Ariz., Mrs. Edith Jemison of Oskaloosa, Mrs. Lottie Mae Bowen of Marshalltown; three brothers, John Kreiss of Mt. Pleasant, Joe and Bob Kreiss of Keosauqua and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceeded in death by his mother, father and one brother, Harold.
Funeral services were held on Sept. 1 at the Bethany Lutheran church in Woonsocket wtih Rev. Duane Shaye in charge. Military interment was in Graceland Cemetery, Mitchell, S.D.
