John Peter Schmitz, 72, a retired Fond du Lac County farmer, died early Sunday morning at his home in Mt. Calvary after an Illness of three years. Born April 15. 1883. at Mt. Calvary, a son of the late Anton and Agnes Hartoch Schmitz, he was married to Miss Barbara Gundert of Mt. Calvary on Nov.
5, 1907. The couple was engaged in farming near Mt. Calvary until
1945 when they retired and moved to the village. Mr. Schmitz was a member of the Holy Name and St. Anthony societies of Holy Cross Church at Mt. Calvary. Survivors are his widow; three sons, Florian R., of Portland, Ore., and Gilbert and Anthony, St. Peter, and three daughters, Mrs. Norbert Engel. New Holstein, and Mrs. Edwin Nett and Mrs. Thomas Floyd, of Fond du- Lac. and 26 grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother. Richard. of Marytown, and eight sisters, Mrs. Pauline Atkinson. Miss Emily Schmitz, Mrs Math Holzmann and Mrs. Ray Sippel. Mt Calvary, Mrs. Peter Konen, Glenbeulah, Mrs. Julia Riden and Mrs. Louis Wuest, Fond du Lac. and Mrs. Henry Feyen, New Holstein. Four sons and one daughter preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at 9 30 a. m. Tuesday at the Lisowe Funeral home. St. Cloud, and at 10 a. m. at Holy Cross Church at Mt. Calvary. The Rev. Ephrem Hertel, 0. F. M Cap, will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. The body will lie in state at the funeral home until the hour of services.
