The son of Gottlieb Mathiesen and Louise Moore Mathiesen, he was born Sept. 19, 1903, at Lincoln, Neb.
He attended schools at Lincoln and Deshler.
Mathiesen lived in Nebraska at Chester and Hebron from 1903 until 1949, when he moved to Blackfoot. He was a farmer.
In 1928 he married Lucille Wershey at Belleville, Kas. They were divorced in 1947.
Surviving are a son, Robert O. Mathiesen of Reno, Nev.; daughter, Pauline, Mrs. August Rhoades of Idaho Falls, Idaho; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brothers, Henry of Chester and David of Belleville, Kas.; and sisters, Mollie Thomasen and Katherine Burton, both of Chester, and Helen Sellers and Carolyn Anderson, both of Brownsville, Texas.
Services were Dec. 24 in the Wood Chapel of Pines with Pastor Paul K. Hanson officiating. Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery at Idaho Falls, Idaho.
