EDINA, Mo. — Funeral services for John Henry Schlepphorst, 73, of Edina, who died Wednesday (Jan. 21, 1976) at 8:45 a.m. in his home, will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic church. The Rev. Thomas J. Duggan will officiate. Burial will be in New Catholic Cemetery. Hudson-Rimer Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Schlepphorst was born April 4, 1902 in Edina, a son of John Henry and Elizabeth Zurborg Schlepphorst. He married Gertrude Delaney Nov. 5, 1928, in Baring. He lived his entire life in Knox County and Edina, except 17 years when he lived in Memphis where he was employed by the Coca-Cola Co. and ran a shoe store and shoe repair shop. Mr. Schlepphorst owned and operated the Main Street Tobacco Store in Edina for 30 years and also farmed. He served two terms on the Edina City Council.
Surviving are the widow, three sons, Dr. Jodie A. Schlepphorst of Canton, John Henry of Flushing, Mich., and Thomas Lee of Kansas City; a daughter, Mrs. Don (Ginger) Cahalan of Kansas City; 14 grandchildren; a brother, Paul of Trenton. and four sisters, Miss Clara, Miss Florence and Miss Ruth Schlepphorst, all of Edina, and Mrs. J. B. (Bernadine) Haddick of St. Joseph. He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
