ED SCHLEPPHORST BURIED HERE AFTER FATAL MISHAP ON JOB IN IOWA
Funeral Mass was held here for Edward Louis Schlepphorst, 56, this morning at 9 o'clock at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev. Terence Mullins conducting. Interment was in the old St. Joseph Church Cemetery beside the grave of his first wife.
Schlepphorst, who lived most of his life in Edina, died at 4 o'clock Monday afternoon of accidental electrocution when a telephone line he was working on in a wind and rain storm just out of Ft. Madison, Iowa, came into contact with an overhanging span of high line wires, killing him instantly. He was employed by the Bell Telephone Co. in Ft. Madison, with his residence being in Denmark, Iowa, a few miles from there. He had been living in Denmark about a year, going there from Dallas City, Ill., where he had been engaged in the shoe repair business.
He was born in Quincy, Ill., June 28, 1896, a son of John H. and Elizabeth Zurborg Schlepphorst, who later moved to Edina.
He married Miss Anna Gale Rourke in Edina July 17, 1916, and a son, Gerald, of East Helena, Mont., and a daughter, Dorothy Mae, now Mrs. Charles Wulfers, of Farmington, Mo., were born to them. Mrs. Schlepphorst died December 26, 1928.
Mr. Schlepphorst, generally Ed, was again married Sept. 21, 1941, at the St. Joseph Parochial Home in Edina, to Miss Doris Sennet [sic] of Denmark, who survives him. Other survivors besides his two children, are three brothers, Lawrence and John of Edina and Paul of Louisiana, Mo., and five sisters: Mary, now Mrs. Steve Mayer of Baring, and Misses Clara, Florence, Ruth and Bernadine Schlepphorst of Edina. His mother also survives. The body was brought from Iowa Wednesday morning to the Kriegshauser Funeral Home.
