Funeral services will be Friday, August 31, for Edith M. Barger, 93, Chamberlain, who died August 28, 2007, at Sanford Mid-Dakota Medical Center there. The services will be held in St. James Catholic Church, Chamberlain, and burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.

Edith Meyer was born November 22, 1913, at Howard to Lewis and Anna (Schmit) Meyer. She attended grade school in rural Hand County and high school in Wessington and Madison, where she graduated in 1931. She attended General Beadle College and then worked at various jobs in Madison, including as secretary for G. F. Buche Company for several years.

She married Orrion R. Barger November 1, 1941, at Mankato, Minnesota. They operated Barger Studio for a time, then closed it while he was a Navy officer in World War II. He also taught at Madison High School. They moved to Chamberlain and resumed the photographic art. They sold the studio in 1980 after almost 40 years. In 1980, they were chosen as Outstanding Alumni at Dakota State College.

Survivors include brother-in-law, Bill Barger, Madison; two sisters-in-law, Edna Meyer, and Dorothy Barger of Bozeman, Montana; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four brothers; and three sisters.

The Hickey-Wevik Funeral Home of Chamberlain is in charge of arrangements.
