Geroge Everett Meyer, 80, West Concord, Minnesota, died Thursday, July 15, 2004 at Methodist Hospital. He was born February 16, 1924, at Wessington, South Dakota, the son of Lewis and Anna (Schmit) Meyer. He moved to Dodge County with his family at age nine. He attended country school and graduated from West Concord High School in 1941. After graduation he attended aircraft school in Minneapolis and worked in California for a short time before returning to Minnesota to farm.
George married Edna Dohrmann July 29, 1944 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Claremont. George and Edna farmed in West Concord for 30 years. George also worked at various manufacturing places in Minneapolis, Faribault, Claremont and Owatonna. He retired from Washington Scientific, Owatonna, after 15 1/2 yrs. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, West Concord, and the Dodge County Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed fishing, dancing, farming, gardening, selling church raffle tickets, playing cards, bingo, chatting with people, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
George is survived by his wife Edna, West Concord, Minnesota; sons Don (Deb) Meyer, Hayward, Wisconsin; and Ron (Kathy) Meyer, West Concord, Minnesota; and daughters Alice (Jim) Miesbauer, Byron, Minnesota; Joanne (Leon) Charlton, Cannon Falls, Minnesota; & Nancy (Mike) Littlefield, Rochester, Minnesota; 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and a sister Edith Barger, Chamberlin, South Dakota. He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
Visitation will be held at West Concord Funeral Chapel Monday 4:30-8:30pm and Tuesday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church 10-11am. Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at 11:00am at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, West Concord. Rev. Kurt Farrell & Rev. Douglas Gits will be officiating. Burial will be in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Cemetery, West Concord. Memorials are preferred to American Heart Association, American Lung Association or the West Concord Fire Department.
