s/o Daniel Werner & Caroline W. Zierke of Kries Wirsitz, Posen, Prussia. He arrived in America on Apr 7, 1877, and married Bertha P. Gutknecht on Mar 21, 1893 in Sibley Twp., Sibley Co., MN.

His father, Daniel, died in Schmilowo, Kries Flatow, West Prussia on Jan 25, 1870. Ferdinand had eleven siblings, three died young in Driedorf; Friedrich, Wilhelmine, and Johann. Bertha arrived in Castle Garden (predecessor to Ellis Island), NYC on May 10, 1873. She was married and living in Henderson, Sibley Co., in 1875. Hermann settled in Cleveland, Ohio with his wife and two children from Prussia in 1878. Pauline arrived in Castle Garden on May 23, 1874, and Caroline, Ferdinand, and twins, Charlotte and Auguste, arrived in America on Apr 7, 1877. By 1885 Caroline, August, Ferdinand, and one of the twins, Charlotte, settled in Sibley and Redwood Counties, MN. Pauline and the other twin, Auguste, had settled in San Francisco, CA. Two children: (maybe) Frederick and William, round out the siblings to twelve.

Vesta - Funeral services were held this afternoon for Ferd Werner, a resident of Vesta for the past 18 years, and the Vesta community since 1893. Services were held at the home and at St John's Lutheran Church, with the pastor, Rev. Karl Brickmann officiating. Mr. Werner had been a member of the church since its founding, and at one time or another had served in every lay capacity in the church. His wisdom and sincere devotion contributed much to the upbuilding and growth of the church. Pallbearers were Wm. Rehling, Dick Gertjejansen, Gust Kremin, W. Zimmer, Peter Zimmer and Adam Naab. Burial was in the Vesta Cemetery. Ferdinand Julius Warner, was born in West Prussia, Germany, July 29, 1859, the son of Daniel and Caroline Werner. His father died in Germany in 1870, and in 1877 with his mother, he came to America, locating in Sibley county, Minnesota where he farmed until 1892. Mr Werner was married March 21, 1893 to Bertha Gutknecht and at that time came to Vesta township to live on the farm just West of Vesta which was their home for 30 dears. In 1823 Mr Werner retired from farming and moved into the vil1age. Mr Werner was taken sick on December 7th, suffered a severe stroke on the 11th from which he failed to rally and death came at 1:25 p. m. on Monday, December 15. His age was 82 years, 5 months and 14 days. Surviving are his wife and nine children, Minnie, now Mrs Minnie Meier, Vesta; Otto Werner, Belview; Harry Werner, Echo; Sophia, Mrs Peter Hauch, Chicago; Esther, Mrs Esther Holzapple, Mankato; Ida, Mrs Ervin Schumacher, Mankato; Sadie, Mrs Bruno Viergutz, Echo; Freddie Werner, Morgan; Martha, Mrs George Weiler, Waseca. Another son, John, died in 1921. One sister, Mrs Henry Thoele of Gaylord is also living and there are 28 grandchildren.
