He was united in marriage on March 12, 1901 to Wilheimina Dorothea Appeldorn and to this union four children were born: Mrs. Velma Wittrock and Edwin Orthmann of Sutherland; Herman Orthmann of Paullina. A son Delbert died at the age of nine years in 1914.
Mr. Orthmann had been engaged in farming, living near Paullina for some years and in 1910 moving to his farm 4 1/2 miles north of Sutherland where he lived until 1920, when he moved to Paullina. Mr. and Mrs. Orthmann lived with the latter's mother, Mrs Henry Appeldorn.
Mr. Orthmann has been patient sufferer of stomach trouble for almost 10 years. He underwent an operation for stomach ulcers which developed into cancer, which caused his death. Mr. Orthmann was a good Christian. He believed in God's words and remarked often, he was "going home" soon. He was an earnest and faithful giver to the church.
He leaves to mourn, his wife, three children, five grandchildren, three brothers and three sisters, Genos and Wm. of Paullina, Edward of Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Sabena Hinkey of Hartley, Mrs. Hannah Claussen of Bigelow, Minn., and Mrs. Matilda Schultz of Berkely, Calif, and many other relatives and friends. Ills friends were numbered by his acquaintances.
