Herb served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked in the oil fields for over 20 years and was a salesman until his retirement. He was very family and friend oriented. He had a strong faith and a deep love for his church. Herb had a short illness and had been in the hospital for only two weeks prior to his death.
He is survived by his wife, Tally; Children: Susan and Pat Washburn; Mike and Mary Karst; and David and Patti Karst; and three grandchildren, Jacob, Max, and Alex Karst. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, John and Mollie Karst and eight brothers and sisters.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013, at Zion Lutheran Church, Newton, KS. An inurnment will be held at 11 a.m. Dec. 23, at the Lutheran Cemetery in Russell. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made to Zion Lutheran Church, Newton. Petersen Family Funeral Home, Newton is in charge of the arrangements.
