"RUSSELL - Martha C. Brack, 85, Russell, died Wednesday, April 26, 2006.
Mrs. Brack was born Martha C. Karst on Nov. 22, 1920, in rural Russell. She was a retired teacher.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Verrel J. Brack, in 1977; a daughter, Vesta Faith Brack.
Survivors include a son, Leon of Iola; a brother, Herbert Karst of Newton; three sisters, Elsie Brack and Esther Scheuerman, both of Russell, and Elma Morgenstern of Overland Park; and two grandsons.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St John's Lutheran Church, Russell. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Great Bend.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church, in care of Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, 610 N. Maple, Russell 67665.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday."

Martha C. Brack
Martha C. Brack, Russell, died April 26, 2006, at the Allen County Hospital, Iola, at the age of 85.
The daughter of John Jacob and Amalia (Keil) Karst, she was born Nov. 22, 1920.
She was born and raised in the Galatia and Milberger area before she moved to Russell, where she completed her high school education, graduating from Russell High School.
After high school, she attended Fort Hays State College for one year where she completed her education and obtained her teaching certificate. She began teaching at Mt. Strecker School, Milberger, for three years.
On Sept. 19, 1943, she married Verrel J. Brack.
They resided in Russell, where they raised their family.
Besides teaching, she worked as a riveter for Boeing during World War II and managed a cleaning service at a Russell motel for many years.
Preceding her in death were: parents, husband, a daughter, two brothers, and two sisters.
Survivors include: a son, Leon, wife Connie, Iola; a brother, Herbert Karst, Newton; three sisters, Elsie Brack and Elsie Scheuerman, both of Russell; and Elma Morgenstern, Overland Park; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held May 1 at St. John Lutheran Church, Russell.
The interment was conducted at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Great Bend.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John Lutheran Church and may be sent in care of Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, Russell and Natoma.

Martha C. Brack, age 85, of Russell was the daughter of John Jacob and Amalia (Keil) Karst and born November 22, 1920 in rural Russell, Kansas. Her death occurred on Wednesday, April 26, 2006 at the Allen County Hospital in Iola, Kansas. Martha was born and raised in the Galatia and Milberger, Kansas area before moving to Russell, Kansas, where she completed her high school education graduating from Russell High School. After high school, Martha attended Ft. Hays State College for one year where she completed her education and obtained her teaching certificate and began teaching at Mt. Strecker school in Milberger, Kansas for 3 years. Martha met and fell in love with Verrel J. Brack and they were united in marriage on September 19, 1943. Martha and Verrel lived and raised their family together in Russell. Verrel preceded Martha in death on November 6, 1977. Martha's work ethic was established early in lie and continued throughout her life. Besides teachng, Martha was a riveter for Boeing during World War II, managed a cleaning service at a Russell Motel for many years, and tirelessly worked in many ways to provide any help her family ever needed. Martha's family will always remember her fo rher sense of humor and her devotion to her loved ones, both family and friends. She ws an inspiration to many for her toughness, common sense and advice. Her love will be missed but her memory never forgotten. Those loved ones she leaves behind are her son, Leon Brack and wife Connie of Iola, Kansas; two grandsons, Adam Brack and wife Nicole of Tampa, Florida and Dylan Brack of Topeka, Kansas. One brother Herbert Karst of Newton Kanst; and three sisters, Elsie Brack and Esther Scheuerman, both of Russell, Kansas and Elma Morgenstern of Overland Park, Kansas
Those preceding her in death were her parents, daughter Vesta Faith Brack; two brothers Albert and Paul Karst; two sisters, Doris Koch and Clara Eacret.
