Eli, known as Eloy, fourth child of Joseph Whilding Wheeler and Isabella Gilmore, both English, was born at Navarro and baptized on April 22, 1867 by the Reverend James Smith, in charge of the Scots Presbyterian City Church, Buenos Aires, Argentina.

However, in the event of his family making a trip to Wimbledon, England, between the years 1868/70, he was re-baptized at Saint Nicholas, Tooting Graveney, Surrey, England, on August 22, 1869.

After the family coming back, he was registered in the year 1874, at the British Consulate, in Argentina, as a British Subject, aged 7, residing at Lobos, Province of Buenos Aires, Argentina, having the following physical features: growing height, fair hair, brown eyes. Remarks: Medway, year 1871.

On September 1, 1891, he left his paternal home on his own and joined the 'Compañía Anónima Argentina de Colonización y Tierras' (Argentine Colonization and Land Company) based at San Francisco, Province of Santa Fe.

He started working as a full-time employee with a low monthly salary and reached the highest position as a Grain Receiver, Colonizing Agent granting a special power of attorney, till he quit after nine years, when the enterprise ran out of business.

At 29 years he was counted in a census for Iriondo, Province of Santa Fe, year 1895, as a salesman, single, protestant and owning a property.

We read in the John Grants Directory that, between 1897 and 1900, he was administrator in charge of the Estancias 'Los Nogales' and 'Los Paraísos', somewhere between San José de la Esquina and Casilda, Province of Santa Fe.

At some point he took charge, until his death occurred, of an estate called 'La Maria Elena', a subdivision made of 'Las Aromas', a larger property inherited from his parents.

Eli, aged 37, residing at Villa Cafferata, Province of Santa Fe, 'estanciero' by trade, got married at La Italiana, District of Marcos Juarez, Province of Córdoba, on September 7, 1903, with Rosa Galice, aged 21, born in Rosario, Province of Santa Fe, Agentina, residing at Cafferata as well, daughter of Louis Joachim Galice, native of France, merchant by trade, and of Fermina 'Elena' Gallegos, native of Argentina, residing both at Cafferata.

They had the following children: Federico Alberto, Eva Violeta Amelia, Percy Cyril, Cecilio, Rosa Elena, Cecil Ralph, Hilda Haydée, Celina 'Elsie' and Eduardo Edsel.

After much suffering, Eli, who had adopted 'Eloy' as his forename, died of a heart attack, aged 61, married and proprietor. He was buried on May 29, 1929 and his grave is shared by his close family.

His siblings were: *Mark Moreton, *Lydia, Thomas, Mary Ellen, Emma Sophia and *Jessie Grace and he was half brother of *Elizabeth and Wallace Woodbine Whilding. (*died at a short age or at childbith)
