John H. Allen passed away Monday, Aug. 18, 2008,
Funeral: 10 a.m. Thursday in Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Chapel. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Alaska Baptist Foundation for John Allen Trust for starting mission work in Alaska, 1750 O'Malley Road, Anchorage, Alaska 99507.
John H. Allen was born May 22, 1931, in Fort Worth. Dr. Allen was a professor of missions and director of memtorship at Southwest Baptist Theological Seminary. He retired in 1993 as director of cooperative missiions and stewardship for the Colorado Baptist General Convention, where he had served since 1987. During his 60-year ministry, he also served the Home Missiion Board, now North American Mission Board, for 23 years as area missionary for South Dakota, 1962-1967; at the Home Mission Board as associate director of church extension, 1991-1976, state director of missiions and executive director for the Alaska Baptist Convention, 1976-1987; and as pastor in Texas, California and Virginia.
Suvivors: His wife Anna Hoeksema, whom he married in 1949; children, Mary Ann Bowen and Brian Earl Allen; grandsons, Matthew Cole, Nathan Cole, Jonathan Wieschedel, Daniel Wieschedel and D.J. Bowen; great-grandchildren, Margaret Cole, J.J. Cole and Angelica Cole; and sister, Mary Ellen Glass.
