Catherine was born in Pfiefer Russia and was of a group of Volga Germans who resettled in the united states and established a town by the same name - Pfiefer Kansas. The colony moved in groups with hers arriving in 1906 - which included her husband and kids up to that time.


Catherine's maiden name was originally Stegmann (the spelling was changed in Kansas later to Stechman)

Mrs. Kisner Dies at Home. Services Set.

Mrs. Catherine Kisner, 88, 542 E. Gordon, who came to Topeka form Russia in 1906, died at her home Wednesday.

She was born in Prieffer, Russia, Nov. 25, 1872 and was a member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the Altar Society.

Her husband, Caspert Kisner, died Nov. 14, 1936 [s/b 12/26/1939].

She leaves three sons, Matthew Kisner of Oelwein, Iowa, Joseph Kisner, 548 Sardou, and George Kisner, 314 E. Laurent; four daughters, Mrs. Mary Porubsky of the home, Mrs. Anna Bellendier of Oelwein, Catherine Sommers, 514 E. Gordon, and Mrs. Marie Miller of 829 Green; 41 grandchildren; 102 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 8 a.m. Saturday in the St. Joseph's Church with burial in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at the Brennan Funeral Home from 2 until 9 p.m. Friday. Rosary will be recited by the parish at 7 p.m., the Altar Society at 7:15 p.m. and the Knights of Columbus at 7:30 p.m.
